Andre Citroen, a former chief engineer at Mors, began his own gear-making firm in 1913, the fact being commemorated by the "herring- bone bevel" emblem used on all Citroen vehicles. By 1919 he had developed two different vehicle designs and over 10,000 cars were produced in 1921. The expansion continued and in 1926 Citroen introduced commercial trucks to their increasing range of vehicles.

This particular truck was imported by the current owner from France in 1974, who began a lengthy restoration which was eventually completed in 1983. The work included rebuilding of the engine, and gearbox, the re-manufacture of any necessary woodwork, and the fitting of a new radiator core and new black upholstery. It was completely resprayed and is now finished in beige with brown wings. The condition is described as excellent throughout and it has been a regular competitor on various commercial rallies including the Trans-Pennine Run. It has also featured in two films, How We Used To Live and Act of Will.
