FROM THE ESTATE OF THE LATE DENNIS WALTER STRANGE
1936 FORD MODEL Y SALOON
Registration No. AMR 110
Chassis No. Y155275
Engine No. RY 1307699P
Black with green upholstery.
Engine: four cylinder, 933cc, 24 bhp at 4,000 rpm; Gearbox: three speed manual; Brakes: four wheel drum; Suspension: non-independent, transverse leaf springs front and rear. Right hand drive.
The Ford Model Y was the first British Ford; with it Ford of Britain and its new Dagenham factory became full manufacturers, rather than simply assembling American types. As the market for large and thirsty cars died at the beginning of the 1930s development of the model Y with its 939cc, 8hp engine, began at Dearborn. By the summer of 1932 the car was in full production, continuing until 1937.
This particular car is the standard two door (Tudor in Ford terminolgy) saloon and has been meticulously restored to its current stunning condition. The late Mr Strange from Cirencester, Gloucestershire acquired the vehicle in June 1970 from his next door neighbour who himself owned the car from 1950. Prior to this the car had just two owners who lived near Bruton in Somerset. Mr Strange reputedly spent in the region of ¨10,000 restoring the Y Type, and upon inspection it is obvious a considerable sum was spent. Documents available for AMR 110 include the last MoT certificate, which expired in July this year, old and new style log books, some invoices and the Ford Y & C Register.
Without doubt this is finest condition Ford Y Type we have had the pleasure of offering.
