These urns are inspired by the celebrated ancient Roman vases known as the Borghese and Medici vases. The Borghese vase was excavated in Rome in the 16th Century and was bought by the Borghese family in 1645. The Medici vase was owned by that family by 1598, Both vases have inspired copies in marble and metal for centuries.
