A GERMAN RAPIER with long double-edged blade of flattened-diamond section with narrow fuller on each face of the forte stamped 'Jesv Maria Mater', the ricasso struck with a mark on each side, iron hilt with cup guard formed of a framework of slender bars enclosing two large circular convex shells pierced and engraved with a design of scalework, the bars, long slender quillons and ovoidal pommel engraved en suite and with conventional foliage, traces of gilding overall, and wire-bound wooden grip, circa 1630
