A DISH-HILT RAPIER, the blade with very long narrow ricasso of square section, finely etched with flowers, Latin mottos and, at the base of each face a lion rampant (etching rubbed and partly pitted), the guard chiselled and pierced with foliage containing hippocamps and framing rondels with horsemen in low relief, ovoidal fluted pommel chiselled with similar horsemen, the quillons with ball terminals and profile busts chiselled on the quillon-block, and wire-bound wooden grip (replaced), mid-17th Century
