A GERMAN SWORD with broad double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section struck on each face with King's head mark, double fuller on each face of the forte and recessed leather-covered ricasso, iron hilt with guard of 'Pappenheimer' type with asymmetrical guard comprising a frame of slender bars enclosing two pierced heart-shaped shells, the inner one curved sideways, the outer one reinforced with an applied formalised fleur-de-lys, long vertically recurved quillons with comma-shaped tips, heart-shaped chamfered pommel with prominent button, and wire-bound wooden grip, circa 1630
