The lyre-shaped frame is designed in the antique manner of Robert Adam, architect to George III, and relates to his girandole pattern of 1770 executed for Robert Child of Osterley Park, Middlesex by John Linnell, cabinet-maker of Berkeley Square. (See M. Tomlin, Catalogue of Adam Period Furniture, London, 1982, pp.32-3).
A related pair of girandoles was sold from the collection of the late H.J Joel, Esq., The Stud House, Childwickbury, in these Rooms, 1 April 1993, lot 163.
