Amongst the leading early 19th Century manufacturers of such Grecian-scrolled seat furniture, with japanned and caned frames, was the Wardour Street chair-maker John Gee. He traded as 'Chairmaker and Turner' to George III, and examples of his work are illustrated in C. Gilbert, The Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, Leeds, 1996, figs. 376-394.
