With shaped rectangular banner with 18th Century gros and petit point needlework panel of a Lady and Gentleman dancing in a floral border, with shaped apron, on a baluster column and cabriole legs with pointed pad feet, the pole replaced, the needlework yellow ground reworked

Lot Essay

The festive flower-wreathed vignette depicts a scene from the Italian Comedy with Colombine courted by Harlequin. These figures from the 'Commedia dell'Arte' were popularised in mid-18th Century London by the harlequinades and dance pantomines staged by John Rich.
