A GEORGE III MAHOGANY HARLEQUIN PEMBROKE TABLE
Crossbanded overall in rosewood and satinwood, the twin-flap top with two panels, one panel enclosing a lifting fitted section, enclosing pigeon-holes and satinwood-veneered mahogany-lined drawers and a flap lined with green baize, each end fitted with one short mahogany-lined drawer (one locked) with maple divisions, one drawer with printed auction catalogue entry 'A Spanish mahogany harlequin writing-table, inlaid with satin-wood, made by Sheraton for Lord Howe, and given by him to Capt. Conway', on square panelled tapering legs with brass caps and castors, the underside with paper label inscribed 'This piece of furniture was made by Sheraton and presented by him to Richard William Penn 1st Earl Howe', the underside of one drawer inscribed in pencil 'H. Williams 43 Queens Rd Bayswater, Sept 7th 82', previously but not originally with circular handles
