The rectangular moulded hinged top inlaid with an oval with floral marquetry spray surrounded by a bird, the spandrels inlaid with floral sprays, the interior fitted with an associated 18th Century mirror and later fitted pink silk compartments

Lot Essay

A closely related box with almost identical arrangement of panels and marquetry, formerly in the possession of Percy Macquoid and sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 7 October 1993, lot 128. The latter was also illustrated in R. Edwards & P. Macquoid, The Dictionary of English Furniture, rev. ed., London, 1954, vol. I, p. 104, p. 14.
