The waisted case modelled with a figure of Diana to the cresting and with scroll sides, with two cherubs flying on nimbi below, the white enamel Roman and Arabic dial signed GALLOIS A PARIS, with gilt-metal hands, a later pendulum regulation scale behind the bezel above 60, the single barrel movement with circular plates and four back-pinned pillars, with later anchor escapement and now with Brocot type regulation, with repeat signature to the backplate

Lot Essay

This model of cartel-clock is well known and was used by several other clock-makers. An example of was sold from the Espirito Santo Collection, in these Rooms, 12 December 1996, lot 17. A cartel-clock of this model, but with patinated bronze figures is in the Mus©e Carnavalet, Paris (see Collection Henriette Bouvier , Paris, 1980, no. 88) Another is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Encyclopédie de la pendule Française, Paris, 1997, p. 100.
