A Chelsea baluster vase and cover
Circa 1752-55, red anchor mark to vase
Painted in the Kakiemon palette with an iron-red phoenix and insects in flight over a long-tailed bird pearched on rockwork issuing flowers and foliage, the domed cover with flower and stalk final (vase with firing fault to reverse issuing major star-crack, polished-out chip to base, cover restored)
10½ in. (27 cm.)
