Hildebrandt visited North Cape, Norway's most northerly point just 71° north latitude in the Arctic circle in 1856 in between his extensive travels in the Americas (following the encouragement of Humboldt) in the 1840s, his tour of the Mediterranean and Holy Land in the early 1850s and his voyage around the world 1862-64.
