PROVENANCE:
Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton (1874-1922), and thence by descent.
Shackleton served in Russia Oct.-Nov. 1918 and (in Murmansk) Jan.-March 1919. He was appointed by the War Office to take charge of winter equipment on the North Russian Front, supporting the North Russian expedition. The Murmansk period saw something of a brief Endurance reunion with Macklin, Hussey, Worsley and Stenhouse all serving together in the British force in Murmansk under Major-General Maynard.
