LA TACHE 1945
Lying at Christie's Warehouse, Barking
La Tâche--Vintage 1945
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
Embossed capsules. Bin-soiled labels. Levels: Lot 531 3.5cms and lots 532 and 533 4cms below base of corks
Tasting note: Tasted, memorably, twice. First in 1961. More recently, the last and unquestionably the greatest of 26 vintages of La Tâche laid on at the Domaine for John Arlott, Christopher Fielden and myself. The Concentration resulting from the small crop could be seen, smelled and tasted: amazing depth of colour, still red; and extraordinary mulberry-rich fragrance, great depth and, after 45 minutes in the glass, exuding incredible power; sweet, the sweetness of ripe grapes and high, well-integrated, alcohol. Full-bodied yet not heavy. Rich texture. Bursting with flavour. Still with perfect balance of tannin and acidity. Great length and inimitable La Tâche aftertaste. M.B. GVWBII
