The circular bezel engraved with two lovebirds beside black letter inscription ? 'Trinis' in corded outer border, engraved at the back of the bezel 'Ananyzapta', the tapering hoop with pearled line, 15th Century, finger size T 1/2

Provenance: Excavated at Attleborough, Norfolk
Cf. Oman, op. cit., 1974, nos. 74(a)(d) for two rings engraved with different versions of 'Ananyzapta'. The same inscription appears on the Middleham jewel. Cf. John Cherry, The Middleham Jewel and Ring, The Yorkshire Museum, 1994, p.25 where it explains that the magical word 'ananizapta' was 'used how as a charm against drunkenness or epilepsy, often known in the Middle Ages as the falling sickness'
