Marie-Thérèse-Charlotte of France (1778-1851), first child of King Louis XVI of France and his wife Marie-Antoinette (see preceding lot), was first called Madame Royale. She survived the Terror of the French Revolution and married her cousin, the Duc d'Angoulême, in 1799. Her younger brother Louis, Duc de Normandie, was born in 1785 and became Dauphin in 1789 after the death of his elder brother. He was considered by the Royalists as King Louis XVII after the execution of his father in 1793 and is said to have died in 1795 but final proof is missing.
