Charles-Louis Bonaparte (1808-1873), third son of Louis, King of Holland and his wife Hortense de Beauharnais, was President of the French Republic 10 December 1848 - 2 December 1852, when he was proclaimed Emperor of the French. He was deposed following his defeat by the Prussian forces at Sedan
4 September 1870. He married Eugénie de Guzman, daughter of the 8th Count of Montijo, in 1853.
