Lot Essay

This book of devotions was prepared by 'Abd al-Hadhi al-Sudi (the Sudanese), a follower of the tradition of the early Sufi 'Abd al-Qadr al-Jilani. It was compiled for Shams al-Sidq b. Fudail b. Abi al-Futuh al-Sini, who may well also have been the scribe. The presence of a Sudanese preceptor for the Qadirite Sufis in China is an interesting piece of evidence of the trade links at that time
