A LARGE LACQUERED PAPIER MACHE QALAMDAN

Of unusual rectangular form with slightly coved separate cover, the dark brown top painted with flowering and fruiting trees together with monkeys, rabbits and deer, around larger animals including a pride of lions, one of which is attacking a deer, a baby bear on its mother's back, a simurgh and a Buddhistic lion, in a border of meandering flowering vine, the sides of the cover with a similar larger band, the sides of the base with similar floral sprays and a variety of animals, the red underside with a counterposed design of gold and black plamette vine, flowerheads, serrated leaves and perching birds, in a floral border, the interior plain, revarnished, slight restoration
