A POST SASSANIAN SILVER BOWL
PERSIA, CIRCA 9TH CENTURY

Of shallow hemispherical form, the centre with a small roundel depicting a bird with scrolling wings, headdress and with a similar branch in its beak, the rim gold washed, central roundel re-fixed, repaired damages to side.
5½in. (14cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

Vessels of Sassanian inspiration with similar bird figures have been published in Smirnov, Argenterie Orientale, St. Petersburg, 1909, pls.LV and LVI. The latter was found in Tchourinskaia, Waitka Province.
