cover SIDMOUTH: 1824 (29 May) double rate entire letter from Jamaica to London by the ship "Caledonia", landed at Sidmouth (probably) by pilot where the "SIDMOUTH/168" mileage h.s. was applied together with manuscript "Ship Letter" in black below; the Ship Letter Office in London charged the letter at the triple rate (4/9d.), though the addressee has written "Only double" on reverse, which was accepted and changed to the correct rate of "3/2" (1/10d. inland rate and 1/4d. ship letter fee).
