JAGO AND THE CAPE OF GOOD HOPE) ORIGINATE IN ADELAIDE AND GRAPHICALLY DEPICT THE EARLY COLONIZATION OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA JUST THREE YEARS AFTER THE FIRST SETTLEMENT WAS FOUNDED, THE VAST MAJORITY SHOW THE UNFRAMED STRAIGHT LINE "SHIP-LETTER" h.s. struck in either black or red, others include framed "INDIA LETTER/PORTSMOUTH", "INDIA LETTER/EASTBOURNE" (in black), "INDIA LETTER/FALMOUTH" (in red), step type "LEWES/SHIP LETTER", unframed "INDIA LETTER/PLYMOUTH", despatch markings include double-ring "POST OFFICE/(Crown)/ADELAIDE" h.s. and large oval "(Crown)/GENERAL POST OFFICE/ADELAIDE" d.s.; the contents include a ten page "Account of a Tour to the river Murray, Lake Alexandrina (or Victoria) and Lake Albert", also another letter is written on the reverse of a printed sheet entitled "The South Australian News Letter" (edition no. 2, 1843); in addition to the twenty-nine entire letters are a further four letters from England to Adelaide, though none show any signs of having been passed through the postal system.
