12 hand-coloured copper-engraved plates by Henry Fletcher and James Mynde after Collins (visible area: 375 x 443mm), framed and glazed. (Some browning, occasional small tears.
FIRST EDITION. A very rare (Bradley Martin had only an uncoloured set) collection of prints attractively presented in "Morland" frames. The plates were issued in a portfolio, without title or text, and depict a total of 115 individual birds representing 58 species arranged against various landscape backgrounds. The prints were based on oil paintings, executed by Collins in 1736. Nine of these oils on canvas are conserved by the National Trust at Anglesey Abbey, Cambridgeshire.
