The sea-green field of each with diagonal rows of stylised ram's horns, hooked palmettes and small animal figures, in an ivory border of paired griffins divided by stylised plants, plain rust-red outer stripe, braided ends

Lot Essay

This most unusual field design is found on two earlier Kazak rugs, one sold in these Rooms, 22 October 1992, Lot 387, the other exhibited in Munich (Volkmann, M.: Alte Orientteppiche, Munich, 1985, no 69, p.102).
