FROM THE COLLECTION OF BERNARD LEACH
Comprising typescript copies of letters and other writings by Leach, one dated Feb. 1935, discussing at length his impressions of Japan, pottery principles and practices, the remainder written from the International House, Tokyo in 1964 recalling his work and philosophy, ".. (A) young journalist .. turned to me and asked what I considered craft to be. I replied 'good work, proceeding from the whole heart, head and hand in proper balance'. 'How do you propose to obtain that in our society now?', he proceeded. Hamada took over and said he had met one man in America who had shown a way forward, Charles Eames.." , various small prints and drawings by friends of Leach, snapshot photographs, including Leach in Japan (illustrated), another showing Leach, Hamada, Kawai and others, postcards, stationery etc., contained in Japanese wicker box.
