Lot Essay

The picture was probably exhibited at the Norfolk and Norwich Association in 1852, and it was certainly painted after 1846 as this is when Williams moved to his Castlenau address where he remained until his death in 1855. It appears that when the picture was with Williams and Son, the title on the old label was misread as 'Thames at Wargrave' rather than 'Scene at Wargrave'.
