Enamelled with a central lozenge-shaped coat-of-arms within a baroque surround and wreath, below a band of iron-red and gilt scrolling foliage in the well and a wide band of fruiting vine at the border, underside glaze line

The arms are those of Fryer. Cf. D. S. Howard, op.cit., p.266. This service was probably made for a daughter of Sir John Fryer, who was Lord Mayor of London in 1721 and was a director of the South Sea Company.
