The sides and stand border pierced with basket-weave lattice and decorated with appliqué florettes, the rim with two branch handles, enamelled at the centre with a coat-of-arms, crest and motto Vive ut Vivas within an underglaze-blue brocade-pattern band at the well and rim, restored

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Falconer of Halkertoun. Although the arms on this service are very similar to those illustrated by D. S. Howard, op.cit., p.352, this service was probably made for a cadet branch, possibly a younger son or nephew
