Cf. the pair of very similar deer, but with more dominant green on the bodies, in the Royal Collection at Hampton Court Palace, London. Cf. also the pair of ewers of similar type from the collection of the Marquis of Exeter, sold in these Rooms, 13 July 1959, lot 19, when it was suggested that they were "possibly the 'two browne painted staggs' mentioned in the 1688 inventory of Burghley House", although the covers were missing. Two complete pairs were sold in these Rooms, 24 June 1968, lots 57 and 58, the property of Lady Sarah Roubanis, from the collection of the late Madame Consuelo Vanderbilt Barsan; and another pair was sold in these Rooms 1 November 1982, lot 371 and subsequently illustrated by A. du Boulay, op.cit., p.291
