TWO INDIAN MATCHLOCK GUNS
LATE 18TH CENTURY
The first with 20-bore swamped sighted barrel with double loops at the muzzle and breech, the latter with Indian arsenal mark in front of the pan, ebony full stock (fore-stock incomplete) with grooved and faceted panel behind the barrel, slightly curved butt decorated with mother-of-pearl inlays including stars and roundels (some losses), iron side-plates chiselled with foliage against a granular ground, each with rear finial pierced and chiselled with foliage involving two peacocks, match-holder, pierced trigger, and iron sling mounts (ramrod missing); the second also of 20-bore, with swamped barrel decorated at the muzzle and breech with chiselled and gilt flowers and foliage against a punched ground, painted hardwood full stock (fore-end a working replacement), silvered iron side-plate, engraved and gilt match-holder and pierced trigger, and gilt serpentine and sling mount (some wear overall, ramrod missing)
