With rebrowned twist two-stage barrel with gold spider fore-sight and retained by two iron bands (the third missing), the top of the octagonal breech struck with two gold-lined marks (Neue Støckel 7921, 7922) with two gold-lined decorative marks above, gold-lined touch-hole, plain deeply grooved case-hardened tang, signed case-hardened flat bevelled lock, walnut full stock (small chip from fore-end tip), fluted Madrid-style butt, plain iron mounts of shaped outline including heel-plate and signed scrolled trigger-guard, and original horn-tipped ramrod

Carlos Montargis was the son of the Madrid engraver of the same name and grandson of the French gunsmith Miguel Montargis, gunsmith to Felipe V from 1701 to 1733. He was trained by Salvador Cenarro, and in turn taught Aquilino Aparicio and Ramon Zuluaga
