With three-stage barrel with later patent breech stamped with gold-lined mark of Ash of Doncaster, signed border engraved flat bevelled lock, figured walnut half-stock (reduced, fore-end cracked and repaired) carved with a shell in relief behind the barrel tang, engraved brass mounts including solid side-plate, and cast and chased rococo escutcheon, horn fore-end cap, and later horn-tipped ramrod (in worn condition throughout, iron parts with some pitting), the lock by the maker's nephew William, circa 1770
