A VERY RARE 17-BORE BREAK-ACTION BREECH-LOADING FLINTLOCK SPORTING GUN

With four-stage barrel and pronounced ring at the muzzle hinged horizontally to the left, released by depressing the trigger-guard, and reatining its reloadable iron cartridge, the breech, top-strap and muzzle retaining traces of gold-damascened symmetrical scrollwork and a signature, bevelled back-action lock engraved with rococo scrollwork (jaw-screw replaced), figured walnut butt (bruised), and engraved iron mounts including shaped flat side-plate finely engraved with two marine monsters and a grotesque mask, the tang of the butt-plate with further rococo ornament, the lock, butt, and butt-plate circa 1750
