A CASED 12-BORE FLINTLOCK SPORTING GUN

With rebrowned twist barrel, engraved case-hardened patent breech with gold-line, gold-lined maker's stamp, and platinum-lined touch-hole, engraved tang, signed border engraved lock with roller and rainproof pan (steel associated), the steel-spring adjustable for tension, figured walnut half-stock, chequered grip, cheek-piece, iron mounts including butt-plate engraved with a dog on the tang, and trigger-guard with a dog and a bird in a landscape, trigger-plate with pineapple finial and scrolled tang, silver escutcheon engraved with initials, silver fore-end cap and barrel-bolt escutcheons, and later horn-tipped ramrod (iron parts with some light pitting): in contemporary lined and fitted mahogany case with some accessories including two extra steels, the lid with Mortimer & Son trade label for circa 1812-1816, and flush-fitting carrying handle, London proof marks
