AN 18-BORE AUSTRAIN BRASS-MOUNTED PERCUSSION HOLSTER PISTOL

MID-18TH CENTURY

Converted from flintlock, with earlier swamped browned twist sighted barrel encrusted with gold foliage at the muzzle and breech, the latter with gold-lined Arabic maker's stamp 'Work of Ali Aghâ', plain tang and flat bevelled lock, carved figured walnut full stock (minor cracks, butt repaired), brass mounts (originally gilt) of shaped outline comprising side-nail plates, pommel and strap on the wooden trigger-guard, faceted ramrod-pipes, horn fore-end cap, and original horn-tipped ramrod, the barrel late 17th century

The barrel was probably captured during the relief of the siege of Vienna in 1683
