With three-stage cannon barrels, the breeches engraved with a rococo cartouche on a martial trophy and numbered 1 and 2, engraved tangs, signed border engraved actions each with raised pan and water-drains, trigger-guard safety-catches each engraved with rococo ornament, swelling figured walnut butts finely inlaid with silver wire scrollwork involving martial trophies and carved with a shell behind the barrel tangs, and elaborate cast and chased mounts comprising trophy of arms side-plates, escutcheons, and butt-caps, London proof marks

Lot Essay

Richard 1 Wilson was free of the Gunmakers' Company in 1725, and Master in 1741. From 1757 to 1759 the company became Richard & William Wilson & Co., and from 1759 until Richard's death in 1766 the company was known as Richard Wilson & Co.
