With slightly belled barrels engraved with foliage at the breech, grooved engraved tangs, signed border engraved rounded locks decorated with foliage on the cock and tail, steel-springs retained internally, figured walnut full stocks carved with asymmetrical foliage in relief behind the barrel tangs (both butts repaired, one fore-end chipped in front of the lock), iron mounts comprising pierced side-plates chiselled with foliage, chiselled escutcheons, trigger-guards with acorn finial, engraved spurred pommels inscribed 'William Palling Esqr. Brownshill 1749', the pommel-caps chiselled in low relief with scrolling foliage against a granular ground, and turned ramrod-pipes, and later iron-capped ramrods, Birmingham private proof marks
