A FINE CASED PAIR OF GASTINNE RENETTE PISTOLS, the first of approx. 8mm and falling-block design, the ornate hinged drop-down triggerguard acting as the underlever, with sprung catch, side cocking-lever, the frame and furniture profusely engraved with bold foliate-scrolls, with much hardening-colour and blueing, chequered walnut butt with engraved and colour-hardened compressed knot finial, elongated back-strap, the browned twist octagonal barrel with six-groove rifling and open-sights, 8¾in. barrel, circa 1865; and another, of approx. 9.5mm, of revolving cylinder type, double action with dual external cocking-lever, the blued solid frame with vertically sliding loading-gate and ejector-rod, the top-strap inset with a sprung safety-catch, chequered saw-handled walnut butt with colour-hardened baluster finial, the octagonal barrel with seven-groove rifling and open-sights, 7½in. barrel, circa 1865-70
