Whilst the gun does not bear a maker's name, it closely resembles a number of guns, including the Army & Navy sidelock. The family of the present owner have long understood that the gun bears no maker's name because it was ordered, and designed, by their great grandfather; the gun is also highly likely to have been presented as a reward for specific services since its decoration and general character are so unusual
