This unusually large pottery jug relates to a small group of similar smaller vessels (Atasoy and Raby op cit. p.259, nos.555-557). This particular example is remarkable for its size. This may be the reason for problems in firing. The glaze on the reverse side of the jug is flecked with black except where it is over the green cloud motifs.
