Lot Essay

For a similar piece, see Morihiro Ogawa, Japanese Swords and Sword Furniture in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston (Boston 1987), p.350, tsuba no. 347, by Dewa Akita no jyu Shoami Denshichi, mid Edo period. The author states that its' very fine thread-like piercing was Denshichi's forte.

Denshichi was the third generation of the Akita-Shoami line, founded by Shoami Densuke.
