A HIGO MOUNTED ENJYU KATANA
The blade mid 14th Century, mounts late 17th/18th Century

The blade iorimune, honzukuri with long groove (bo-hi) to each side, medium point (chu-gissaki), forged with tight ko-itame, tempered edge suguba of nioi and ko-nie, suguha-boshi, tang o-suriage with four holes, Enjyu school, 70.2cm., in shirasaya; the Higo style mounts black lacquered with horn kurikata, fuchi-kashira of shakudo inlaid with gilt Kaga-mon, the leather bound tsuka with black lacquered same bearing menuki of kiri-mon in gold relief, kozuka and kogai en suite of shakudo nanako bearing similar mon to the menuki, the circular densely forged iron tsuba decorated with flower mon (five-petal mokko), Kanbun style
