The room shows evidence of a Pugin-Crace collaboration of about 1850, such as took place at Abney Hall in Cheshire, for James Watts, later Lord Mayor of Manchester, and Leighton Hall in Shropshire for the Leighton family. The fireplace tiles would have been supplied by Minton.
Tantalisingly, despite the grandeur of the room, the house has so far eluded identification.
