Lot Essay

A nephew of Walter Fawkes, of Farnley Hall, Yorkshire, Lionel Grimston Fawkes was at R.M.A., Woolwich in 1868 and was commissioned in the artillery two years later. From 1878 to 1884 he was attached to the Governor's household in Barbados, visiting many other islands in the Carribean during this time.
