Lot Essay

The high 'bended' back and particularly the cabriole leg with hoof foot and arched and shaped stretcher is very simiilar to a set of chairs supplied by Richard Roberts, Chairmaker to George I in 1717 for Hampton Court Palace. A similar example is in the Victoria & Albert Museum (W.28-1909), (see: R. Edwards, English Chairs, Victoria & Albert Museum, London, 1965, no. 46)
