Lot Essay

Peder Severn Krøyer (1851-1909) studied at the Academy of Arts in Copenhagen later travelling to France, Italy and Spain. He was one of the most important and influential Danish painters of this period. Krøyer spent most summers in Skagen with fellow artists such as Michael Ancher. His house there had now become the Krøyer Museum. In this picture, just visible on the easel in the background is a study for one of Krøyer's most famous works, St. Hans Blus pä Skagen Strand of 1906.
Hans Gyde Peterson lived at Klampenborg near Copenhagen and exhibited at the Academy of Arts, Copenhagen from 1882-1888.
