INDENTCorporal Joseph Green, born in Morpeth, Northumberland; joined the 61st. Regiment at Hexham, aged 24, 1803; took part in the Battle of Maida, 4th. July, 1806, where only the Regiment's flank companies were present, earning the sleeve title "Maida", in the process; served during every major action which the Regiment fought during the Peninsular War, 1809-14 and was the only man, present at Maida, to achieve this distinction. Private Green was discharged after 23 years service, 1826.
