INDENT Lieutenant Archibald Alastair McLeod entered the Gloucestershire Regiment as a Second Lieutenant, 1897; served with the Mounted Infantry during the war in South Africa, 1900-02 and was present at the relief of Kimberley; served during operations in the Orange Free State and took part in the actions at Paardeberg, Poplar Grove, Dreifontein, Houtnek, Vet River and Zand River; was present during operations in the Transvaal and took part in actions near Johannesburg, Pretoria, Diamond Hill, Wittebergen, Bothaville and Caledon River (Mentioned in Despatches); Captain 1905; employed with the West African Frontier Force, 1906-08 and subsequently joined the 1st. Battalion of his Regiment; served with the British Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders, 1914 and was present, with the 1st. Division, at the battles of the Aisne and the Marne. Captain McLeod was killed in action while leading his Company in an attack on a farm held by the Germans, 2nd. November, 1914.
